Logging In
While you can post on the Chatbox without logging in, you won't be able to use features such as Private Messaging and Coloured Names.
To log in, you must be logged into the RuneScapez forums. To do this either click the login button on the chatbox, or use the one at the top of the forums.
If you do not have an account, you may register one from the link next to the login one. Once that account is registered, it can be used in every part of the website.
To log out, click the 'log out' button on the bar across the top of the page. You will then be logged out from all areas of the site.
Name Symbols
While talking on the chatbox, you may notice an array of different styles of names. These different styles represent that persons status.

Forum Moderator: Same as the above, just with an uncontrollable thirst for cookies.
Content Manager: Help the manage the content on RuneScapez such as Guides and Images. If you submit a guide, it'll be most likely one of these guys that approve it.

Elite Member: This rank is for those who have more than 2000 posts on the RSZ forums.
Senior Member: This rank is for those who have more than 800 posts on the RSZ forums.
Advanced Member: This rank is fo those who have more than 300 posts on the RSZ forums.

Private Messaging
Only registered users can send PM's. To send a PM, make sure you are logged in. A icon will appear next to all the users that you can PM. Click it, and a box will appear. Just write what you want to say into that box and hit send!
Private messages will appear in blue at the top of the chatbox, underneath any pinned messages, in blue.
Remember that Private Messages can be read by the administation if nessercary, so don't PM anyone something you wouldn't want the administation to see.
If you abuse the PMing system, then you run the risk of having use of the feature taken away from you, and having furthur action taken against your account.
If you wish to report a PM sent to you, PM an admin with the details of the PM you're reporting.
Smileys
Thanks to the graphical skills of our members, we have a great library of smileys at your disposal. Each smiley has a unique code that will bring it up upon entry.
To find a complete list of these smileys, click the Smileys button. If you wish to use a smiley quickly, then simply click the smiley, and the code will appear in the message box.
If you wish to submit a smiley to the chatbox, please message an administrator with the link.
BBCode
To improve the usage of the chatbox, a safe BBcode, similar to HTML, has been added. It works in the simple way of enclosing the desired text in the desired elements. The list below displays all the main pieces of BBCode:

Chatbox Rules
Rule 1: Offensive language.

While talking on the Chatbox, please do not post obscenities, or swear, whether you are just using it in general, or whether it is directed at someone. If you do, then your posts will be hidden, and you will be muted for an amount of time directly proportional to the language used.
Continuous breaching of this rule may lead to a permenant mute.

Rule 2: Bug Abuse

Occasionally you may come across a bug on the chatbox. It is completely prohibited to use this glitch to your advantage. It's your obligation to immediately report it to an Administrator so the glitch can be removed. No matter how small or large the bug is, you will face consequences if you abuse bugs. To report a bug please use the Ticketing System.

Rule 3: Spamming.

Please do not spam on the Chatbox. Spamming is defined as the continual posting of pointless, or annoying messages. All spam will be hidden immediately by a member of staff, and you will most likely recieve a mute.
Similar to Rule 1, continual breaching of this rule will result in a permenant mute.

Rule 4: Flaming

During using the chatbox, we ask you not to flame a user. Flaming is the act of deliberately putting down a user, and is in no way tolerated. Flaming is grounds for a very long mute with little warning. Runescapez is to be a safe environment, if you want to flame somewhere, please take it elsewhere.

Rule 5: Role-playing.

Role playing is allowed on this Chatbox, so long as the role playing in question does not breach any of the other rules. Please keep the names used limited, and please also do not register them. If a moderator asks you to stop, then you must immediately.

Rule 6: Impersonation.

Please do not impersonate anyone on this chatbox! Impersonating anyone is a serious offense and is grounds for a mute. Impersonating staff will not be taken lightly. Staff can be recognized by a green/gold lightning bolt next to their name, if they don't have one, they're not staff. Repeat offenses of impersonation will result in a permanent mute.

Rule 7: Multiple names.

We ask you, for simplicities sake, to only use and register one name while on the Chatbox. If you do use other names, while role-playing for instance, then they must remain unregistered, so as not to clog up the database with un-used profiles. If a moderator asks you to stick to one name, then you must oblige.

Rule 8: Mod harassment.

Moderators have been chosen by Administrators to protect the community, they often are very good at their jobs and don't usually make mistakes. Since the chatbox is public, Moderators are chosen to help protect the people viewing. Please don't harass Moderators.
If you think a Moderator has done something wrong, please report them to an Administrator by using the Ticketing System.

Rule 9: Website Linking/Discussion.

Due to the [url] BBCode, you are able to link to other websites. We would ask that the websites linked to do not contain indecent images/content, do not breach the rules of RuneScape, such as Private Servers, and do not contain malicious software or viruses.
We also ask that you do not discuss such websites either. Posts mentioning or linking to any of these sites will be hidden, and if you persist you may be muted.

Rule 10: Personal Details

The Runescapez chatbox can be accessed by anyone, so we highly recommend you don’t give out personal details. There are certain things you may not discuss: Full name, Address, Phone number, School/workplace. Another thing that is absolutely not tolerated is discussing/asking for passwords. Discussion of passwords will lead to a mute. You may discuss email/im/gamer tags (although it’s not recommended), through Personal message.

Rule 11: Staying on Topic.

Please do not stray too far from normal conversation, or start talking about random things, or in a language that no-one else may understand. Talking about another topic, such as coding, or real-life events is permitted, so long as it does not stray out of hand. If a moderator asks, then you must return to the normal topic of conversation.

Troubleshooting
Not able to log in (IE6- users): This is most likely because the browser is refusing the login status cookie. To remedy this, select on the toolbar Tools-> Internet Options-> Security -> Trusted Sites. Click on the 'Sites' Button, and add http://runescapez.com to the list.
Not able to post: There are multiple possible causes of this; you may either be Muted for inappropriate language, in which case you must wait for the mute to wear off (standard mute is 10 mins for a minor offense, 1 hour for a more serious one). You may also be experiencing a problem with the javascript that runs the form, make sure that POSTDATA is enabled in your browser.
I get a blank screen instead of the chat messages: If this is the case, then your browser does not support AJAX (Asnychronous Javascript and XML). The best way to sort this out is to convert to a better browser, such as Mozilla Firefox, or Internet Explorer 7.
The chatbox keeps going blank: This is either due to a server error, or a faulty internet connection. If it is a server error, then it will most likely be announced via a pinned message on the chatbox. There are several ISP's that are known to have a faulty connection, such as AOL, so it may be your internets fault.

If you have any other issues that are not mentioned here, please contact a staff member by using the Ticketing System.
