Introduction
Fletching is the skill in which the character makes ranging supplies from such items as: Bowstrings, Unstrung Bows, logs, shafts, feathers and so on. Fletching has the potential to make you some money while you're training. This skill has to be one of the easiest skills to level in!
Fletching was once a great skill to make money in, although, it's not so much anymore. You can still make reasonable profits and train at the same time though. It is also very easy to get the supplies to fletch with, in the Grand Exchange. It may get boring after awhile (from doing the same thing over and over again). Don't stress about it though, every skill has it's drawbacks.
How does one make money from fletching?
You actually don't make so much money straight away, you need to level up to a reasonably high level (don't worry; you level up fast in fletching). When you can make Yew long bows, Mages will buy them from you in mass amounts.
Why you ask?
Because using Yew Long bows is the fastest way mages can level up and spend the least amount of money possible. They use high alchemy on the yew long bows to get some money back and train mage at the same time.
Bows
It's quite easy to make a bow, first you need to have: 1 log of the bow you wish to make, a knife and 1 bowstring.
Then you use the knife on the log and it gives you an option:
Now you must select what kind of bow you want to make (Short bow, Long bow or Crossbow). Once selected your log will be 'fletched' into an unstrung bow. Now use the bowstring with the unstrung bow and you will have a bow.
Note: When you cut a log you get half of the total xp, when you string the Unstrung bow you get another half.
Here is a table with level requirements/XP per bow:

Crossbows
To make a crossbow you will need: 1 log (for whatever type of crossbow you are making. Example: 1 yew log for a yew crossbow stock), 1 crossbow string, a knife, a hammer, 1 limb (to see what limb you should use for each stock, see the table bellow).
To make a crossbow, cut your log with a knife and make 'Crossbow stock'. Then add the appropriate limb to the crossbow stock. Now you can add the string to the crossbow. Congratulations you have made your very own crossbow!

Darts
Darts, like everything else you make in fletching, are for range. To make darts you need: Dart tips (made in smithing) and feathers.
You easily make them by using the two items together.
The following table will show you which materials you need for which darts:
| Picture | Name | Dart Tips Required | Level Required |
XP Gained |
| Bronze Darts | Bronze | 1 |

Note: In order to make darts you must first complete the quest 'Tourist Trap'.
Arrows
To make arrows you need: 1 log (you can only use normal logs), a knife, feathers and arrow tips. Now, arrows are very easy to make, first you use the knife on the log (a menu will appear in the chat area, select the arrow shaft option), each log will make 15 shafts, next add the feathers to the arrow shafts, then you would have some headless arrow. Next you add the arrow tips to the headless arrows (you can make arrow tips in the Smithing skill).
You should now have at least one arrow; it's as easy as that!

Bolts
To make bolts you need: Unfeathered Bolts and Feathers. If you want to add tips you also need: bolt tips. Making bolts is easy, first you get the unfeathered bolt made from the skill 'Smithing' and use it with the feather. You should have a normal bolt.
(optional): Add the appropriate Bolt tip to a bolt, you will now have a Tipped Bolt.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why do people Fletch?
A: Mainly to make money, but sometimes to get one of their skills to level 99 (to get an achievement cape).
Q: How do you make money from Fletching?
A: Selling them to players training magic (they use the high alchemy spell). They usually use this strategy to level up their mage fast while not loosing to much money.
Q: Where do I get my 'Skill Cape' from?
A: You can get them in Catherby from Hickton (He is in the Archery shop).
Q: Is fletching worth it?
A: Honestly, it depends. It can take awhile of training to get to a high level and you don't make a lot of money; however, you do make some money. Personally I love fletching because it is so easy to level up in and you can make quite a few friends while fletching.
Q: Where can I sell my Yew bows quickly?
A: To quickly sell your Yew bows quickly you can:
a) Make a new thread in the Runescape Market place "fletching" forum stating how many you are selling and for what price.
Or
b) Go to world 24 at Castle wars. There is a wall where you can view the game of Castle wars in action. If you go on that wall there should be a few mages high alching. You can usually sell your yew longs pretty fast on that wall.
Training Methods
Levels 1-5:
Level 1-5 is usually the most annoying because you can make barely anything! I suggest just making arrow shafts until level 5, it may take awhile but it's cheap. You can usually just sit by a tree, cut it and fletch the shafts or you can go to a non-member world in the Lumbridge general store and buy logs there, hop to a member's world then fletch.
Levels 6-40:
Getting from level 6 to 40 is annoying as well because you still won't be making any profit. You will need to follow the previous instructions, but instead of fletching arrow shafts, fletch unstrung bows (the best you can make). Don't string them as you will just be wasting your money.
Levels 41-70:
The goal for any beginner fletcher is to reach 70, so you can make yew long bows. Until we get to 70, we will make willow long bows. It's up to you if you want to string them, but you won't get any money back. To get the logs you should go to world 1, Draynor. Hundreds of people sell Willow logs there for about 20gp each. Buy as many as you need, fletch them into unstrung willow long bows then sell them in the Lumbridge general store when your done with them (you can make back some money).
Levels 70+:
Now that you are level 70, you can really start to train! At level 70 you can make money and advanced levels extremely fast. What you do is buy about 1000+ yew logs from the grand exchange and then buy the same amount of bowstrings. Fletch the yew logs and bowstrings into Yew long bows and sell them (Find out how to sell Yew long bows fast in Faq's). Keep doing this until you are level 99 (note: You could fletch magic longs at level 85, but you will loose money).
Miscellaneous
Ogre items:
To make 'Ogre' items, such as 'brutal' arrows and bow, you must complete a few quests.
In order to make 'brutal' arrows and Ogre Composite bows, you must complete the quest: "Zogre Flesh Eaters".
In order to make Ogre arrows you must complete the quest: "Big Chompy Bird Hunting".
How to make Ogre Arrows:
Firstly, you must cut some achey trees to receive achey logs. Then use a knife on the achey logs to get the ogre arrow shafts. Next you add feathers to the arrow shafts (four feathers per arrow). Then you use a chisel on wolf bones, this will give you wolfbone arrow tips. Add the wolfbone arrow heads to the flighted ogre arrows. You should now have ogre arrows!
How to make 'Brutal' Arrows:
Firstly, repeat all the steps on 'How to make ogre arrows' but don't add wolfbone arrow heads to the flighted ogre arrows! You will need a hammer and some nails. Use the nails on the flighted ogre arrows and your character should automatically drive the arrows into the incomplete arrows to make 'brutal' arrows. Add the desired arrow heads.
How to make Ogre Composite bows:
To make a Ogre Composite bow you need to use an achey log, like all the other ogre items. First, get hold of an achey log. Next fletch it into an Unstrung Ogre Composite bows (you must have wolf bones in your inventory; they will be fletched with the bow). Lastly, Add the bow string to complete your Composite bow.
Summoning:
If you are good at summoning you may wish to summon the 'beaver' who can be used as a knife, this leaves one valuable inventory space for fletching more logs at a time.
